AI equity funding fell to $149.5Bin Q2'26 from Q1's record $237.6B,when OpenAI and Anthropic bothanchored the quarter's biggestrounds. Cerebras went public at a $40.6Bvaluation, the biggest exit of Q2'26and a signal investors see roomfor a challenger to Nvidia's grip onAI chips. AI minted 37 new unicorns in Q2'26,the highest total since Q2’22 and upfrom 32 QoQ. Large language model developerDeepSeek ($59.2B) and Jeff Bezos-backed physical AI startup ProjectPrometheus ($41B) led the cohortby valuation. Anthropic alone accounted forthree of the quarter's five largestrounds ($50B, $10B, $5B), withProject Prometheus's $12B SeriesB and DeepSeek's $7.5B Series Arounding out the top five. In Q2, Anthropic carried thatweight alone, $65.8B across aSeries H and two corporate rounds,while OpenAI sat out. StripAnthropic out and the broadermarket held far steadier. Total exits held roughly flat at 457,made up of 430 M&A deals, 25 IPOs,and 2 SPACs, as a modest uptick inM&A (up from 419 in Q1'26) offseta pullback in public listings (downfrom 33). The global unicorn populationclimbed to 671, with 20 of the 37new entrants based in the US.
