Since April, more than 100,000 apparel sellers have settledon Taobao. This includes Internet celebrity models and outfit-styling bloggerswho have launched personal brands. Over the past year, Taobaohasexperienced a huge surgein theonboarding of new merchants, spanning morethan 10 niche tracks such as influencers, designers, and livestream hosts. Withsupport from the platform, more than 10 merchants have surpassed 100 millionyuan in sales in their first year, and more than 600 merchants have surpassed10 million yuan in sales. This year, Taobao will continue to increase investmentfor new merchants with funding on the order of hundreds of million yuan andtargeted traffic in the tens-of-millionsrange. The goal is to give merchants extramomentum from their set-up to scaling-up, and to cultivate more promisingemerging brands.1 Meituan’s 1Q26 revenue reaches 91 billion yuan; loss narrows by 9.6billion yuan from last quarter On 1 June, Meituan (美团) released its financial results for the first quarter of2026. In this quarter, Meituan generated revenue of 91 billion yuan, up 5.6%yoy. Operating loss narrowed from 16.1 billion yuan in the previous quarter to6.5 billion yuan. Loss from its core localcommerce business was two billionyuan, a substantial improvement from a loss of 10 billion yuan in the priorquarter. Loss from new businesses was 2.1 billion yuan, significantly lower thana loss of 4.6 billion yuan in the previousquarter. In the first quarter, Meituancontinued to advance its “retail + technology” strategy, accelerating thedeployment of technology into real-world scenarios.
