Data collected June 29 through July 14, 2023.•Methodology conforms to accepted marketing research methods, practices andprocedures. METHODOLOGY Objectives andMethodology •On June 29, 2023, Endeavor Business Intelligence emailed invitations to participate inan online survey to members of ourIndustryWeekdatabase. Reminder mailings weresent to non-respondents July 6 and 13, 2023. •By July 14, 2023, Endeavor Business Intelligence had received 107 completedresponses to the survey. Only respondents who worked for a manufacturing companywith annual revenues of $1 billion or more were qualified to answer the survey. RESPONSIVE MOTIVATION •To encourage prompt response and increase the response rate overall, a live linkto the survey was included in the email invitation to route respondents directly tothe online survey. •The invitations and survey were branded with theIndustryWeeklogo to takeadvantage of user affinity for this valuable brand.•Each respondent was afforded the opportunity to enter a drawing for one of four$100 Amazon.com gift cards. On July 13, an enhanced incentive of a $10 Amazoncard for each qualified respondent was offered. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY As manufacturers continue their digital transformation journey, the landscape has onlybecome more complex, and technology is advancing faster than ever. Given the need forever-increasing amounts of information to be communicated faster, with greater reliablyand more securely, manufacturers are pushing the limits of traditional OT and ITcommunication infrastructures. However, an emergent solution — private 5G cellularnetworks — is playing an increasing role in accelerating digital transformation which offerseveral advantages over traditional wireless networks, including: Private 5G cellularnetworks equipmanufacturers with apowerful technology, improving theiroperations, increasingtheir security andaccelerating theirdigital transformationjourney. •Faster data speeds:Private 5G cellular networks can deliver a remarkable boost indata speeds as well as increased consistency and faster transmission when comparedto traditional Wi-Fi networks. As a result, manufacturers can collect and process datamore quickly and reliably, leading to improved decision-making and productivity. •Lower latency: Private 5G cellular networks boast lower latency compared totraditional wireless networks. This translates to less delay between when a devicesends a signal and when it receives a response, which becomes crucial for real-timeapplications, such as robotics, PLCs and autonomous vehicles.•Expanded device connectivity: Private 5G cellular networks excel in connecting a largernumber of devices compared to traditional wireless networks, allowing additionalflexibility and value to manufacturers seeking to establish connections amongst avariety of machines and sensors.•Enhanced security: Private 5G cellular networks offer increased security over privateWi-Fi networks due to their dedicated radio frequencies and end-to-end encryption, inaddition to being easily integrated into existing security infrastructures.•Superior coverage: Private 5G cellular networks provide better coverage overtraditional wireless networks, allowing manufacturers to deploy seamless indoor andoutdoor coverage cost-effectively while enabling advanced use cases that requiremobility. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY As advantageous as these benefits may be, it’s crucial to understand how manufacturersare considering how to apply this technology. Highlights from this survey report reveal: •Manufacturers are investing in their data networks: Thirty-nine percent ofrespondents indicate investments in their production floor data network are a higherpriority in comparison to other technologies. •Manufacturers are adopting 5G:Thirty percent of respondents are currentlyincorporating private cellular networks within their infrastructures, and 8% plan to addthis investment in the next 12 to 24 months.•Familiarity is growing and interest is high: The majority of respondents are not veryfamiliar with the use of private 5G networks in manufacturing. However, 60% ofresponden
