IntroductionGaining PerspectivesFrom Across The Globe2In recent years, discussions about the futureof government have mostly focused on theimperative to navigate uncertainty anddisruption—particularly in regulating artificialintelligence, addressing climate change,managing public debt, and enhancing crisismanagement with foresight, agility, andresilience.To drive an informed dialogue and promptaction on the future of government, wesurveyed 50 government ministers fromacross the globe to share their perspectiveson maximizing public value and impact.The Global Ministers Survey engages thetop executives leading the transformationin government, allowing us to explorethe trends and underlying issues that willshape our collective future. The surveypaints a compelling picture in which globalgovernments are reinventing themselvesto prioritize citizen wellbeing. Government Re-InventedThe survey reveals an evolved model of governance that is:InnovativeCo-creative with citizensData enabledEmbraces new digitalways of working The future of government continues to be a subject of ongoing debate, shaped by an array ofindexes and tools that gauge efficiency, citizen trust, and national competitiveness.The definitive finding from our survey is that policymakers believe that the role of government willincrease in coming years, leveraging technology to inclusively engage with stakeholders and co-create the development and delivery of public policy and services. A supra-state dominated bybig business, transcending borders, anddriven by economic and commercial interestsrepresented 20% of the total responses.Interestingly, 16% think the future will bringa “tech-enabled small government”—wherethe government uses technology to outsourceall its major roles and engages citizens at alllevels of policy and service design to providetailored services at the touch of a button.
