Our objective is safeand healthy journeys for all.We work to prevent road traffic injury in the context of a world in which almost 1.4 million people arekilled and many millions moreinjured on the roads globally every year. We advocate for increasedinternational and country level response to this epidemic in line with the Sustainable DevelopmentGoals(SDG)agenda and we support programmes designed to reduce the toll of human suffering.With growing political awareness of the health effects of air pollution, including from vehicles, we workwith UN agencies, expert partners and major cities to accurately measure the emissions performance ofvehicles, and to highlight the rights of all, and especially children, to safe and healthy travel. We alsoleadpioneeringwork to understand the mobility impact of harassment on women.Our support for cutting-edge motor sport safety research and training contributes to keeping thousandsof participants and spectators safe across the world.Our Social Impact-in2024the highlights ofour funding programme and initiativesare the following:•Independent analysis by Johns Hopkins University estimated that implementation of theInternational Road Assessment Programme’s (iRAP) safe road design protocols has prevented700,000 serious injuries and deaths since 2016;•US $2.9 billion of safer road investment has been influenced by iRAP’s safety assessmentsin 2024;•£38.3 million of new safer road investment based on iRAP assessments announced by Departmentof Transport in England;•40,000 square metres of public space remodelled to prioritise children through Streets for Kidsprojects led by the Global Designing Cities Initiative(GDCI);•‘Sammy’s Law’ legislation enabling local speed reductions to 20mph in New York City.
