ADB's working paper "Sectoral Debt Capacity and Business Cycles" examines the relationship between sectoral debts and economic growth in developing Asia and the world. The paper finds that rising household debt is more harmful to future economic growth than corporate debt. However, the effects of debt burdens on growth rates vary across economies and depend on relative income. The study covers a sample of 55 emerging and frontier market economies. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is committed to promoting sustainable economic growth in the region and providing policy dialogue, loans, equity investments, guarantees, grants, and technical assistance to its developing member countries.
