A profit ofapproximately HK$5 million was recorded, compared to a profitHK$357 million last year. Excludingthe disposal of the entire equity interest in StarlitePrinters (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd last year and the resulting net gainofapproximately HK$483 million,the core profit level of theGroup improved as a result of the effective implementation of anumber of cost optimisation measures and the exchange gainsfrom the depreciation of Renminbi during the period. During the reporting period, the global political and economicsituationremained complex and severe.The turmoil in theworldorder such as geopolitical conflicts and escalatingcollisionsamong great powers exacerbated the risk of globaleconomicdownturn or even recession.The recovery of theglobal economy has been hindered by multiple factors such asslowingdomestic demand and high inflation in developedeconomies, and the unfavorable macro environment has affectedthepurchasing power and consumption desire of endconsumers,which in turn affected the demand for variousconsumer goods. In the face of abnormal fluctuations from thedemand side, our customers have adopted a more conservativebusinessmodel.In addition to tightening order and inventorypolicies, they also delayed the development of certain potentialprojects,which had a short-term impact on the Group’sbusiness growth. Despite the sharp fluctuations in the economicenvironment, the performance of the three plants in China wasbetter than expected during the period. A profit was recordedfor the Guangzhou plant while the loss narrowed significantlyforthe Shaoguan plant.The Suzhou plant improved itsprofitabilitydespite the disruption of Shanghai’s lockdownmeasures and the decline in sales at the beginning of the year.Onthe other hand,sales remained stable,but a loss wasrecorded in the ASEAN region.
