Agusta Westland客户成功案例

Aerospace and Defense Company Designs, Develops, Builds, and Tests anInnovative-Configuration, All-Electric Rotorcraft in Six Months AgustaWestland, a helicopter company owned by the Italian companyFinmeccanica, is a leading supplier of military and commercial opera-tors around the world. The company offers the widest range of advancedrotorcraft for both military and commercial applications. AgustaWestlandcollaborates with major European and American helicopter companiesand leading aerospace and defense companies to constantly deliverstronger products and increase global reach. AgustaWestland Industry Aerospace and defense, unmanned vehicles Solutions •Wind River VxWorks 653Platform•Wind River ProfessionalServices THE CHALLENGE Project Zero is an unmanned, all-electric tiltrotor aircraft designed by AgustaWestland that hovers like a helicopter and converts to a fixed-wing aircraft inforward flight. The project offers a look into the future of advanced rotorcraftand is the result of close design and manufacturing collaborations with otherFinmeccanica companies, including Selex ES, a Wind River®customer. Benefits •Designed, developed, built, and successfully testedan innovative-configuration,allelectric rotorcraft insix months•Reduced program risksand improved engineeringproductivity by using provenWind River technologyLoweredtesting and qualification costsby reducing the complexity oftest systems “Working with Wind River enabled us to develop“Project Zero” in record time with a revolutionaryapproach by leveraging market-leading technology” — Dr. James Wang, Vice President ofResearch and Technology, AgustaWestlandt The AgustaWestland design team faced several challenges when embark-ing on this project. First, they were designing and building a large all-electricvertical-lift aircraft in a size and creative configuration that had never beenattempted before. Second, they set a challenging target to start testingProject Zero aircraft six months after the project began. Third, they needed tocarefully manage development costs and deliverables. “We reduced our development time by applying ourmodel-based control algorithms to a VxWorks 653application partition,” Wang explains. “This enabled usto isolate our main control functions from the rest of thecontrol system, making debugging easier and allowing afaster integration in the main flight control system. Thisreduced our risk, eliminated our learning curve for integra-tion and development, increased our productivity, andgave us more time to test and debug the solution.” THE APPROACH AgustaWestland selected Wind River VxWorks®653Platform for its high performance and reliability, as wellas to minimize program risks and ensure successfulprogram completion. “Our colleagues from the avionics department recom-mended Wind River for our project, because they werereally satisfied by the technology and the level of supportand competence provided during past projects,” says Dr.James Wang, vice president of research and technologyat AgustaWestland. “Wind River offered proven solu-tions for avionics, combined with professional servicesexpertise.” FUTURE PLANS Project Zero is a fast-paced technology incubator pro-gram. “Working with Wind River enabled us to developProjec Zero in record time with a revolutionary approachby leveraging marketleading technology,” Wang con-cludes. “We saved a tremendous amount of time duringthe development process by using Wind River technologybecause it offered hard real-time, portability, reusability, and robustness characteristics, as well as a strongecosystem. The Wind River team is also very professionaland pleasant.” The industry-leading VxWorks 653 Platform delivers thestringent integrated modular avionics (IMA) foundationaerospace and defense companies need to addressthe safety and security requirements of mission-criticalapplications, as well as the portability and reusabilityrequirements of noncritical applications. VxWorks 653 Platform is part of the Wind River portfolioof trusted systems and is compliant with ARINC 653.Using an open standards–based approach and withthe help of the Wind River Professional Services team,AgustaWestland was able to design, develop, build, andtest its avantgarde rotorcraft in six months. AgustaWestland plans to use Wind River technologiesand services in future projects. The project team used the High-Integrity Flight ControlComputer (Hi-FCC) platform developed by Selex ES,based on a Freescale Power Architecture®processorand VxWorks 653 Platform. This allowed the designteam to use a mature, efficient platform combined with ahighquality software stack, with great support from bothcompanies. It also helped reduce the overall developmentand deployment time.
