New Horizonsfor Open Source www.linuxfoundation.org The First Dawn(August 1991) “Helloeverybody out there...” I’mdoing a(free)operating system(just a hobby,won’tbe big and professional like gnu)for386(486)AT clones.This has been brewing sinceApril,and is starting to get ready.I’d like anyfeedbackon things people like/dislike in minix,asmy OS resembles it somewhat(same physical lay-outof the file-system(due to practical reasons)amongother things). I’vecurrently ported bash(1.08)and gcc(1.40),andthings seem to work.This implies that I’llgetsomething practical within a few months,andI’dlike to know what features most people wouldwant.Any suggestions are welcome,but I won’tpromiseI’ll implement them:-) Linus PS.Yes—it’s free of any minix code,and ithasa multi-threaded fs.It is NOT portable(uses386task switching etc),and it probably neverwillsupport anything other than AT-harddisks,asthat’sall I have:-(.
