The Country Cancer Profile Series Contents The European Cancer Inequalities Registry is a flagshipinitiative of Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan. It provides soundand reliable data on cancer prevention and care to identifytrends, disparities and inequalities between Member States,regions and population groups. The Country Cancer Profilesidentify strengths, challenges and specific areas of actionfor each of the 27 EU Member States, Iceland and Norway,to guide investment and interventions at the EU, nationaland regional levels under Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan. TheEuropean Cancer Inequalities Registry also supports Flagship1 of the Zero Pollution Action Plan. SPOTLIGHT ON PAEDIATRIC CANCER26 Data and information sources The data and information in the Country Cancer Profilesare based mainly on national official statistics provided toEurostat and the OECD, which were validated to ensure thehighest standards of data comparability. The sources andmethods underlying these data are available in the EurostatDatabase and the OECD Health Database. Additional data and information also come from theEuropean Commission’s Joint Research Centre (EC-JRC),the EU statistics on income and living conditions (EU-SILC)Survey, the World Health Organization (WHO), theInternational Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), theInternational Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the EuropeanSociety for Paediatric Oncology (SIOPE), the European UnionAgency for Fundamental Rights (FRA LGBTIQ), the HealthBehaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) survey as wellas from the 2023 Country Health and Cancer Profiles, andother national sources (independent of private or commercialinterests). The calculated EU averages are weighted averagesof the 27 Member States unless otherwise noted. TheseEU averages do not include Iceland and Norway. Mortalityand incidence rates are age-standardised to the Europeanstandard population adopted by Eurostat in 2013.
