Welcome fromour director Director, Global Plastic Action Partnership,World Economic Forum The year 2025 marks a defining milestone forthe Global Plastic Action Partnership (GPAP):the achievement of 25 National Plastic ActionPartnerships across Africa, Asia and Latin America.Together, these partnerships now drive change formore than 1.5 billion people, making GPAP theworld’s largest multistakeholder initiative dedicatedto ending plastic pollution and advancing a circulareconomy for plastics. action can turn ambition into measurable progressand shared prosperity for people and planet alike. At the global level, GPAP actively supportedmultilateral efforts through insights, multistakeholderconvenings and ministerial dialogues – fromthe Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee(INC) working towards a global plastics treatyto the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm (BRS)Conventions’ Conferences of the Parties and theUnited Nations Ocean Conference – helping shapea coherent global response to plastic pollution. What began as a coalition of committed partnershas grown into a global community of action, unitedby the conviction that tackling plastic pollutionis not only an environmental imperative but alsoan economic and societal opportunity – one thatdrives innovation, builds resilience and enablesgreen growth. As we marked World Environment Day 2025,focusing on ending global plastic pollution throughcollective action, this mission felt more urgent – andmore within our reach – than ever. I am deeply grateful to our partners, donors anddedicated teams worldwide. Together, we aretranslating commitment into action, and actioninto impact – transforming systems and buildingthe partnerships needed for a truly sustainable,equitable and prosperous future. This year, our work demonstrated the powerof collaboration at all levels: from the launchof seven National Plastic Action Roadmaps tothe strengthening of regional cooperation. Wedeepened our understanding of how plasticpollution affects biodiversity and livelihoods,while expanding research and funding for localorganizations driving solutions on the ground.
